Our Top Tips for 2012

  • Book early and save more- All scheduled airlines (Ryanair, Aer Lingus) increase their fares closer to departure so book your holiday 8-10 weeks in advance to get cheap flights.
  • Search all sun destinations to find the best value sun holiday to match your travel dates
  • Be flexible – travelling on a Tuesday for a sun holiday or Saturday for a city break can be cheaper than any other day of the week

Predictions for 2012

Here is what we think will happen in 2012:

  • More consumers will use scheduled airlines to book their sun holiday or city break in 2012. This pattern will increase from 66% at present to almost 75% by the end of 2012
  • Scheduled airlines will start targeting the routes where the charter airlines still dominate, namely Greece and Turkey
  • All inclusive sun holidays will rise in popularity as standards rise and people opt for knowing the total cost of their holidays
  • City breaks will continue to increase in popularity as the number of holidays people take per year falls back to one main sun holiday and one or two short breaks.

Other Recent Trends to note

  • The under 30’s market are particularly responsive to city breaks provided the prices are under €200 per person
  • The single biggest growth area is the all inclusive sun holiday, which includes all food, drink and entertainment. The reason for the growth in this type of holiday is that you can budget for the total holiday in advance; you really don’t have to spend any more money when on holidays
  • Long stay holidays – getting away for 2, 3 and 4 months is now a significant factor in winter travel as people want to escape the harsh weather
  • Over 50’s holidays make up almost 70% of all winter sun holidays.
