Verona is a gem of a city, its home to the open air Opera which runs from 22 June to 02 September. I’ve been on Verona City Breaks a few times and last year I went over on a city break with some friends, we spent 4 nights in the town of Garda, on Lake Garda and one night in Verona at the Opera.

My advice to get the best value for money at the Opera in Verona is to go for the stone seats called the Gradinata, they start at only €23 per person and you can hire a soft cushion for the performance. The views is breathtaking and the sound is perfect, ok you are some distance from the stage but if you want to be closer to the action you can pay up to €200 per person for one of the best seats in the house.

If you’re in Verona don’t miss out, even if you are not a big Opera fan, the spectacle of seeing a mammoth performance in an out door arena, just like the Coliseum in Rome is a must.

There is plenty to do in Verona, Shakespeare set Romeo and Juliette here and you can visit the “Casa di Giulietta” on Via Cappello, entrance is €7, you don’t really have to go in, it’s almost better to look up at the balcony and to see all the romantic musings people have written on the wall nearby.

Verona’s tourist office website is a great site for checking out what Verona has to offer.

The other brilliant thing about Verona is that its the gateway to the Italian Lakes, you are literally 20 minutes drive from Verona airport to wonderful resorts on the south of the lake, like Sirmione, Bardolino, Lazise, Peschiera and Garda.

I’m going to do a separate blog on Lake Garda as there is just so much to see and do. We had a ball last year, simply blown away by the beauty of the lake and it’s a massive lake.

Lake Garda is actually larger than the island of Malta and to give you some perspective it’s about the same length as if you drove from Drogheda in County Louth to Bray in Co Wicklow. You can imagine with a lake this size that its coastline is dotted with stunning medieval towns and villages.

Getting there

The Aer Lingus flights to Verona are twice weekly every Saturday and Wednesday commencing in March and running all the way through to  October.

Verona airport is just 10kms west of the city so it’s really between Lake Garda and Verona. The aerobus runs every 20 minutes from outside the airport to the main train station in Verona, it costs €6 per person and the journey time is just 20 minutes.

ClickandGo.com have some great Verona City Breaks.

You can go for 3 or 4 nights with prices from around €248 per person for Aer Lingus flights, taxes & charges and 3 nights B&B in a central 3* hotel, based on 2 sharing, that’s amazing value for Italy.

At ClickandGo.com we know how important choice and convenience is to you so if Verona isn’t for you check out our other city break destinations and design your perfect holiday now!
