With 46 pristine golden sand beaches and traditional whitewashed villages, holidays to Menorca are ideal for families, friends and couples who want to relax. Although quieter than Majorca and Ibiza, the atmosphere in Menorca is mellow but invigorating.
Menorca has plenty going on in the summer months, in particular, local festivals around the island. The most popular festival is the 3-day Festes de Sant Joan held in June in Ciutadella. From men carrying sheep on their shoulders to jousting and local black horses parading the streets, it's a memorable festival.
The island of Menorca is a dedicated UNESCO biosphere reserve. Its coastal landscape is dotted with bays and stretches of sandy beaches, whereas inland it’s all about rolling hills, green fields and 70,000km of dry-stone walls (akin to the West of Ireland).
If you’re a fan of gin, Menorca has its own gin, Gin Xoriguer. This gin dates back to the 18th Century, with production starting to satisfy demand from British sailors. To drink it like a Menorcan, mix it with lemonade to create a refreshing drink called Pomada.
Filled with lazy days under turquoise blue skies and enchanting evenings dining al fresco, you’ll easily fall for Menorca’s spell and be captivated by this small island.
