Important Information to Read before you Travel

Important Information to Read before you Travel

In advance of your upcoming holiday, we have put together some important information for you to review.

Travelling overseas from Ireland

Please refer to the official website of the Department of Foreign Affairs for travel information, requirements and restrictions, here.

Please ensure you complete all required documentation in advance of arriving at the airport for your departing flight. Failure to comply with your destination country’s requirements may result in you being refused entry, fines and return transport at your expense.

Each and every traveller must hold a current valid passport, including infants. Many countries (outside the EU) have an immigration requirement for a passport to remain valid for a minimum period (usually six months) beyond the period of your stay. There are no visa requirements for holders of EU passports to any of the EU destinations we feature; however, other nationalities must check with their respective Embassy or Consulate if a visa is required. Visas are required for various long haul destinations worldwide.

You will find information regarding passport, visa and vaccination requirements for different destinations on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) website, here.  We strongly recommend that all travellers take time to read the information and note the advices offered.

Information submitted through the IATA website is not used to personally identify you, and is only used to provide personalised travel documentation information.

The IATA website also gives access to information on customs import and export regulations, airport departure taxes, and currency import and export restrictions.

Passengers are responsible for ensuring all required travel documents are complete and valid.

Travel to the USA

For the most up to date information please refer to the Department of Foreign Affairs website here

Those planning to travel are advised to monitor the website of the US Embassy in Dublin for updates.

Irish citizens require an ESTA or visa to enter the US.  An ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) application can be made to determine the eligibility of visitors to travel to the US under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

A valid passport is required for travel to the US. Passport cards cannot be used. Ireland has an agreement with the US that allows you to enter on a current passport up to the actual date of expiration – so your Irish passport needs to be valid only for the duration of your stay in the US.

Travel to Canada

For the most up to date information please refer to the Department of Foreign Affairs website here

All visitors to Canada are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six months of date of entry.

Canada has introduced an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. Passengers who do not require a visa to fly to Canada need to apply for an eTA. This includes passengers travelling on an Irish passport.  To apply for this visa please click here.
