Nestled in a corner of the island of Cyprus (south west coast), holidays in Paphos are a dreamy mix of sunshine, a busy harbour front with colourful local caiques, the sandy beach at Coral Bay and plenty of shops and restaurants.
This once tiny fishing hamlet is an international tourist resort today and a further attraction is the legend of Aphroditi's Rock (visible in the ocean when viewed on the road from Limassol to Paphos) where many visitors stop to swim and take some photos (selfies, anyone?) at the rock where the Goddess of Love washed ashore and Cyprus now claims her as their own and marks this as her birthplace.
Holidays in Paphos are spent with lazy days on the beach, a stroll round the waterfront admiring the boats or window shopping in the many local stores and boutiques. The traditional tavernas and local restaurants come alive in the evenings and the bars and al fresco terraces, hung with fruiting vines and figs, are a lovely relaxing venue for a nightcap. I can just smell the sea air and the waft of a charcoal grill holds the promise of dinner - a perfect end to a perfect day in Paphos.
Ireland now has direct flights to Paphos, so holidays in lovely Cyprus are easily accessible and ClickandGo provides hotel options in many of the island's resorts.
