AGADIR
MA
South of Marrakech towards the coast, holidays to Agadir boast curving expanses of golden sandy beach that take form and almost encircle the popular resort in Morocco. Emerging from the cocoon of a local fishing port, the town is now a busy seaport and bustling holiday hotspot. Having the benefit of being a commercial town first, Agadir goes about its business without seemingly paying much heed to the transient tourist. Don't be fooled. With direct Dublin Agadir flights, visitors are extremely important and the people are genuinely friendly, helpful and curious.
Local mores and traditions are highly valued which makes holidays to Morocco interesting and different. However, if Agadir is your first "taste" of Morocco, you can expect an exotic touch but also the most European of holiday resorts. There is 10k of lovely soft sand beach, hotels of excellent standard, good quality food and nightlife that is exuberant or laid back, whatever you choose.
The old Kasbah (or medina) area has the usual merchants vying for your attention and your money and they'll drive a hard bargain so you must be willing to haggle back. Its very exciting with so many foreign sounds and smells and the mere sight of pungent spices in terracotta, gold, sunset red and ochre mini pyramids is enough to send budding cooks into ecstasy. There are plenty of pretty souvenirs to part you with your cash and embroidered slippers, mirrors with beaten copper frames, leather jackets and bags or a poke of fresh and aromatic spices all make lovely presents. The newer part of Agadir is pretty faceless as many of the buildings are quite modern, but many are still beautifully decorated with mosaics of tiny coloured tiles in intricate patterns and complex designs.
Enjoy the local cuisine in Morocco which can mean breakfast of orange juice (fresh from the tree!), delicious breads and croissants and a bowl of couscous with the traditional tagine for dinner is a delicious stew made in a conical earthenware dish. A trip to Agadir is a surprisingly upmarket and modern experience where hotels are geared to the needs of today's visitors - holidays to Morocco that simply cater to all tastes. .
Further afield, explore the lovely old historic town of Taroudant, home of Pashas and Palaces or stroll around romantic coastal Essaouira, home of many artists, writers and poets and once host to Jimi Hendrix and many hippies in the 1970s.
We are simply unbeatable for holidays to Morocco from Ireland. A selection of hotels, not only in Agadir, but traditional Essaouira and exotic Marrakech too offer variety and fantastic value for money.
