Cesar Manrique Foundation:

Hailed as the Godfather of Lanzarote, artist Cesar Manrique is responsible for many of the island’s attractions, buildings and overall aesthetic. He convinced the tourism industry to never build anything higher than a palm tree, keeping the authentic charm. Explore his unique, glamourous home built into volcanic rock that looks like a set of a Bond movie.

Old Town:

Visit the first settlement and former capital of the island, Villa de Teguise and enjoy the relaxed local atmosphere in the bars and restaurant. For history lovers there are the museums house of the Marques de Herrera y Rojas and the Casa Perdomo.

Timanfaya National Park:

Marvel at the spectacle of 500 hectares of volcanic lava fields that looks more like a Mars landscape than a Spanish Island. Experience the heat coming from a dormant volcano, ride a camel over the vast terrain or simply be educated on the natural geography at the Mancha Blanca centre.

Cueva de los Verdes:

The Green Cave is one of the world’s longest volcanic tunnels and is part of the protected area of island. Travel through the magical natural wonder as ambience light and sound guides you.

Jameos Agua:

Visit this unique blend of art and nature that was conceived by the beloved Manrique. The volcanic tunnel and caverns function as an underground concert hall, restaurant and salt lake and is his crowing example of how artistic vision can harmonise with the surrounding landscape.

Papas con mojo:

Known the world over as Canary potatoes, these new potatoes are boiled and dried over a flame until they appear wrinkled, served with a spicy red pepper and chili sauce.

Limpets:

These black and orange native shellfish known locally as lapas, are prepared on a griddle and served with white wine and olive oil. Although they are technically an aquatic snail, limpets taste like mussels and are a very popular starter in Costa Teguise.

Octopus:

The local speciality in the resort, Costa Teguise octopus is served with a crispy skin and is found in the more upmarket restaurants.

Sancocho:

The most typical dish of the resort, this fish stew is made with salted fish, potatoes and sweet potatoes and served with gofio dough and mojo sauce.

Bienmesabe:

For something sweet, try this local pudding made with egg, honey, sugar, almonds and lemon.

Buses:

The Interurban buses operate routes from Costa Teguise and other popular spots such as the capital Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.

Car hire:

Perhaps the most popular option for visitors to the resort, car hire is relatively cheap here and starts at as little as €15 a day.

Ferries:

Make the most of island life and hop on board the ferries setting sail for nearby La Graciosa, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
