Sibenik

Located slightly north of the centre of Croatia on the Dalmatian coastline, approx 80km north of Split and about 85km south of Zadar, Sibenik peers across the sea to neighbouring Italy. The city boasts a naturally protected deep harbour and the lovely river Krka, flows into the Adriatic. Challenged through the ages, Sibenik was founded by Croats, resisted the Ottoman Empire, taken over by the Republic of Venice, part of the Austrian monarchy, ruled by Yugoslavia and finally freed in the Croatian War of Independence (1991 - 1995).

Naturally, Sibenik is filled with historical marvels like its magnificent Cathedral of St James and the St. Nicholas Fortress that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It also has the beautiful and rare Medieval Monastery Mediterranean Garden of St Lawrence.

However, Sibenik is also renowned as a city for young people and the vibrancy of its cafe culture is legendary. From modern cafes on the Riva, trendy shops, traditional squares and typical restaurants, Sibenik holidays are all about enjoyment and fun. A very cultural city, indulge your passion for music and the arts with many concerts, shows and outdoor festivals.

A warm Mediterranean climate means holidays in Sibenik make the most of the great local beaches and the natural heritage of Krka National Park where its many waterfalls and indigenous flora & fauna warrants a day of exploration. The amazing Kornati Archipelago has 150 islands to explore, so the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic are always an excellent way to spend a day. Truly traditional in many ways, bring home a real Dalmatian souvenir like good olive oil, dried figs, pretty jewellery or sponge items from the nearby coral reefs.
