Combine a feeling of tranquillity with a blast of lovely yellow sunshine and blend it with a splash of turquoise blue and emerald green water and Aghios Georgios magically appears!
Imagine a holiday resort on a picturesque Greek island like Corfu where life remains almost unchanged since Granny's time. In fact, a little stroll through an olive grove to the quaint 10th century village of Argirades is exactly that - a life unmoved by crass commercialism where the hand of time has barely tipped ... Aghios Georgios is one of those unique places where a10 klm stretch of golden sandy beach is dotted with a scant few local shops and a handful of traditional tavernas serving up real Greek food and bracing mouthfuls of Retsina and Ouzo. Aghios Georgios holidays are virtually devoid of the grander 5 star hotels, but the area concentrates instead on offering more modest accommodation options with less brash quality hotels.
Located on Corfu's south west coast, Aghios Goergios lies just a 15 minute drive from its noisy neighbour, Kavos, so if you' re really starved of a bit of crazy nightlife or a mad disco, grab a local taxi and head to the wild side. Otherwise, kick back your heels and dip your toes in the sand in Aghios Georgios for an enjoyable evening in the local taverna with only the sound of the sea lapping the shore. Idyllic. Mind you, some lively traditional Greek nights have been experienced with plenty of bouzuki music and sirtaki dancing!
Many superlatives have described an Aghios Georgios holiday, but none sum it up quite so well as simply laid back and relaxing. A marvellous holiday venue, Aghios Georgios is also perfect for hiking and cycling, so the benefit of the great outdoors can be experienced. In addition, the nearby nature reserve of Lake Korisson, a salt water lagoon, is an important habitat for local birds and widllife.
This southwest coast of the island is fairly undeveloped and can be quite windy too, so surfing and kite flying are popular pastimes. Backed by undulating sand dunes and awarded Blue Flag status, Aghios Georgios south is considered one of Corfu's best beaches and one of it's best kept secrets. No wonder it is favoured by the Corfiots for their own holidays. Safe for swimming and very family friendly, an Aghios Georgios holiday is truly heaven-sent.
Aer Lingus operates a regular flight service from Dublin to Corfu and we provide accommodation in Aghios Georgios and many other resorts on the island.
