Kontokali

If you prefer your holidays in Corfu to be the relaxing and non-frenzied type, then Kontokali might suit very well. The little resort is situated north of Corfu Town and is about 30 minutes walk from the neighbouring resort of Gouvia. The local bus operates into Corfu Town on a regular basis.

Holidays in Kontokali are filled with warm, lazy days on the Blue Flag sand/shingle beach. The water is clean and clear and the gently shelving shingle is safe for swimming. Laid back, casual and delightfully relaxing, perhaps an energetic stroll to the nearest beach shack for a cool drink will be the aerobic exercise for the afternoon. Nightlife options are fairly quiet with a smattering of local tavernas and a few local style bars. However, some of the tavernas have live music, so a bit of Sirtaki dancing could be in order! Gouvia offers a few more choices though if you want to walk a bit more on the wild side!

The village is a straggly mix of minimarkets, family owned shops and local tavernas. The marina area has a lovely selection of opulent yachts, gaily painted fishing boats and modest caiques. There are a few good restaurants here serving local Greek cuisine and international fare, so its a romantic and relaxing venue when the sun goes down.

Corfu holidays in Kontokali in general centre around tranquil days and low key evenings eating delicious Greek cooking and sampling some gut wrenching retsina, decent Corfiot wines or aniseed-flavour Ouzo - what's not to like! Kontokali holidays are not for the wild child; rather, cool your heels, sit back and take life easy. Take time to smell the roses or, more appropriately, the jasmine or the bougainvillea!
