Messonghi

One for the lotus eaters, Messonghi is one of Corfu's most laid back and relaxing resorts and many aspects of this area are still intrinsically Greek. In fact, the resort does not make any effort to impress and does not see any need to court the visitor which is perhaps its genuine attraction.

Imagine a lazy lunch eaten virtually at the water's edge where dish after dish of delicious local cooking appears as you sip a cool drink and make the difficult decision to remain in the taverna, escape to the shade of a pine tree or go for a quiet siesta..... It's tough going on a holiday in Greece!

Corfu holidays are all about a complete chill-out and Messonghi is the top choice for de-stressing. Located in the south of the island, near neighbour Moraitika is equally quiet by day, but has a few more options in terms of restaurants and bars. Don't expect any wild nightlife, as holidays in Messonghi are not aimed at night owls.Think instead of the gentle thrum of cicadas in the trees, a small beach and a few local tavernas for delicious moussaka or stifado and, naturally, a Greek salad.
