Armacao de Pera

Holidays in Armacao de Pera are purpose built for beach lovers. Absolutely heaven sent for holidaymakers who prefer the quiet (ish!) side of life but yet enjoy the option of lovely restaurants and bars for relaxed evenings, Armacao de Pera will definitely fit the bill. Not exactly a shrinking violet, the resort is still not a hotbed of wild nightlife, but manages to steer the middle course between laid back enjoyment and utter boredom! But worry not, there are plenty of great restaurants, local bars and many tourist pubs.

Burgeoning from a teeny fishing hamlet, Armacao de Pera is now a popular tourist spot and, of course, the biggest draw has always been the stretch of pale golden sandy beach, sheltered by a ridge of steep cliffs. Very typically Algarvian in appearance, the resort of Armacao de Pera has amazing rock formations, crystal waters and soft, soft sand. Children and adults adore the beach. Safe for swimming and perfect for watersports, skiing, snorkelling, sailing and even diving (marine life is rich and there are a few wrecks offshore) are all available.

Armacao de Pera has the charm of the "old village", situated at the eastern end by the fishermen's beach, where vestiges of the old way of life are still visible and some of the local restaurants serve seafood and fish so fresh it seems it has just jumped from the sea to the plate! Explore the remains of the 17th century fort (which acted as defence for the village against the pirates from a bygone era) and visit the tiny chapel inside, dedicted to Santo Antonio. A warren of little cobbled streets houses a selection of cafes, shops and local restaurants, where traditinoal cuisine and warm ambience await. The western end of the resort has its share of high rise buildings and tourist properties.

Armacao de Pera is situated roughly midway beween Albufeira and Carvoeiro and, whilst it may not be quite so renowned as its neighbours, Armacao de Pera has plenty of attractions (lots of ice cream shops too!) and is situated close enough to a couple of water parks and Zoomarine (a sealife park) to make family days out easily accessible.
