Blanes

Located on the north-east coast of Spain, the pretty resort of Blanes is often called the Gateway to the Costa Brava. Only about an hour from Barcelona, (the Queen of Catalonia herself!), your holiday in Blanes is a great introduction to the lovely "Wild Coast". Also, thanks to judicious planning, Blanes learned from other over-commercialised towns and has retained its unique Catalan identity and remains proud of its fishing heritage. Notwithstanding, the town has excellent infrastructure and Blanes holidays are full of fun in the sun. 

Holidays in Blanes are enjoyed by many locals who journey north from Barcelona to escape the city heat, so the resort has general appeal and attracts Spanish visitors as much for its beautiful beaches and rugged coastline which stretches for 4K, as it does Europeans who crave sunshine and the balmy waters of the Mediterranean. Secluded coves, a sheltered harbour and remnants of a picturesque old town with tiny fishermen's cottages are what Blanes holidays are all about. Even more, a holiday in Blanes offers superb beaches (S'Abanell - the longest beach on the whole Costa Brava; Platja de Blanes in front of the old town and Punta de Santa Ana next to the harbour), delightful local restaurants serving mouthwatering tapas and delicous Catalan cooking and lots of music bars and pubs. If you enjoy shopping, a holiday in Blanes is heaven-sent. Upmarket shoe stores, chic boutiques and local shops are in plentiful supply. 

For a seaside break, a holiday in Blanes provides all the tourist requirements, but without the tacky excesses. The old quarter of the town still has a bit of character and an active fishing fleet lends an authentic air. The annual Concurs El Focs de Blanes is an international Fireworks competition (usually held in late July) and makes spectacular displays for brilliant family entertainment. A lovely Botanical garden is another delight in the town. 

There are no direct flights to Blanes, but regular flights directly to Barcelona from Ireland make the resort easily accessible.
