{{emailAddress}}Holidays in Spain's Tossa de Mar are legendary in their own lifetime! A sparkling jewel on the Costa Brava, Tossa de Mar is located in Catalonia, approx. 100km north of Barcelona and equidistant from the French border to the south (Winter skiing in the Alps, anyone?). Well known for being the only fortified medieval walled town on the entire Catalonian coast, Tossa de Mar does not trade on any historical significance, but could easily boast of the incredibly picturesque and charming cobbled streets which meander around the Old Town (Villa Vella Enceinte) and the lovely Castle and watchtowers at the end of the beach.
Tossa de Mar has incredible beaches and the main crowd pleasers are Platja Gran, El Mar Menuda and El Codolar.
Watersports are a huge attraction and scuba and PADI diving are very popular. The delightful Mediterranean climate naturally helps to keep Tossa de Mar as a prime tourist centre on the Costa Brava and the resort is more family friendly than nearby Lloret.
Mistakenly considered an original fishing hamlet, Tossa de Mar actually relied more on its agriculture and cork industry before sunseeking visitors arrived on its shores. The interior of the walled-in Old Town just teems with great restaurants, tapas bars, local pubs and the usual mix of fast food joints and international bars. Tossa de Mar retains a village-like feel though and it is easy to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. A little tourist train bumbles through the meandering streets of the town. Indulge in some serious people watching from a terrace cafe overlooking Passeig de Mar and relax in some balmy afternoon sunshine.
There are no direct flights to Tossa de Mar from Ireland, but regular flights to Barcelona from Dublin offer easy access.
