Alcudia

Located on the northeast coast of Majorca, Alcudia is an ideal family style resort. Long renowned for the marvellous expanses of soft and pristine sands, the beach envelops the resort and is at the heart of every holiday. For family holidays in Majorca, Alcudia is a top favourite.

Actually, the beach is hailed as perhaps one of the best in the whole Mediterranean region. Bordered by the Paseo Maretimo, an evening ramble here is a must. The old town (2 miles inland from the coastal resort) is quite historic with impressive fortified walls and two city gates, all dating back to 1300. The cobble-locked streets are narrow and meandering and provide the perfect medium for romantic walks or just a spot of window shopping - Majorca holidays are made of this!

Stretching all the way from the Port of Alcudia to Playa de Muro, the area is extensive and well developed. Good infrastructure in this established tourist centre means a terrific diversity of cafes, bars, shops and restaurants.

As this Majorca resort is very geared towards families and couples, nightlife is subdued, but certainly not boring! There are plenty of lively music bars, romantic pubs and child friendly eateries with fish restaurants in particular being superb. The shallow and sheltered waters of Alcudia Bay are marvellous for all manner of watersports and swimming is a pleasure in such crystalline conditions.

A trip to some of the other resorts like Cala D'Or or Puerto Pollensa would make a lovely change of scene, so consider renting a car for a couple of days. Even venture down to Palma, the lovely capital city or drive to Portals Nous for a visit to fabulous Marineland.

A market, held twice weekly, is a bargain hunter's paradise and could be your answer to the pain of souvenir buying. A great day out with the kids (or not!) is a visit to the Hidropark where a wondrous array of pools, waterslides, a wave pool, boating rivers, mini golf courses and splashy rides will exhaust even the most hyperactive.

All told, Alcudia is a good quality mainstream holiday resort which is capable of offering a holiday experience with wide appeal. There are no flights to Alcudia, but excellent connections with direct flights to Palma from Ireland guarantee easy access.
